Inventor/Business Manager
If you want to start your own business in Japan, you should get permission for "Investor/Business Manager" status.
The basic requirements for "Investor/Business Manager" are as follows:
@ The facilities to be used as an office for the business concerned is located in Japan
A The business concerned has capacity to employ at least two full-time employees in Japan in addition to those who operate and/or manage the business.
The employees can be people who have the residential statuses of permanent resident, dependent of a Japanese citizen, dependent of permanent resident, or long-term resident as well as Japanese national.
With regard to A, it is considered that more than 5 million yen needs to be invested for the business. Additionally, the employer has to give the employees the health insurance and labor insurance.
To start business and get permission for this residential status, it is important that you make a realistic, well-considered profitable business plan. And depending on your business, you may have to get other permission as well and you need to establish a company to start business. Therefore it is highly recommended to consult with the lawyer before you start the procedure.
Criteria Provided in Ministerial Ordinance
1 In cases where the applicant is to commence the operation of international trade or other business, the following conditions are to be fulfilled.
a The facilities to be used as an office for the business concerned is located in Japan.
b The business concerned has capacity to employ at least
2 full-time employees in Japan (excluding foreign nationals residing under the status of residence enlisted in Annexed Table 1 of the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act), in addition to those who operate and/or manage the business.
2 In cases where the applicant is to invest in international trade or other business and to operate or manage that business, or in cases where the applicant is to operate or manage international trade or other business on behalf of foreign nationals (including foreign, corporations; hereinafter in this section "foreign nationals" is to include "foreign corporations") or who has begun such an operation or has invested in such a business, the following conditions are to be fulfilled.
a The office for the business concerned is located in Japan.
b The business concerned has the capacity to employ at least 2 full-time employees in Japan (excluding foreign nationals residing under the status of residence enlisted in Annexed Table I of the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act), in addition to those who operate and/or manage the business.
3 In case an applicant is to engage in the management of international trade or other business in Japan, he should have at least 3 years' experience in the operation and/or management of business (including the period during which the applicant studied business operation and management at Graduate School) and receive no less salary than a Japanese national would receive for comparable work.
